Marc Jacobs Bookstore – Bookmarc

Marc Jacobs Bookstore Bookmarc

Take note, fellow shoppers and believers of Marc Jacobs, there has been a slight shift in the Jacobs kingdom in West Village. While the Marc by Marc Jacobs Accessories store which purveys five-dollar key chains and 3-dollar Latin rings has closed its doors for the time being (cue sighs and tears of tourists and retail pilgrims who have marched their way over with wallets out and credit cards ready), Bookmarc has opened its doors to cater to the nerdy niche of the Jacobs fan base. The new Bookmarc sells a curious selection of books including quirky and irreverent stationery from the designer who had recently posed for his own “Bang” campaign in the buff.

Aside from a carefully curated library of photography, art and design books, interesting journals taking a liberal word play on classic literature features printed titles like “Moby’s Dick (LOL)”, and “The Gay Gatsby”, and “My Grapes Of Wrath Are Sweeter Than Yours”. On the sidewalk, Bookmarc has set out a selection of used reads in a sweeter, more concise manner than Strand, a notable bookseller in Union Square. In the store, we have also spotted an interesting hand-made clutch imported from France which features a carefully embroidered book cover, modeled after classic titles.

Bookmarc plans to host book signings and even bring in a singer for a live-session sometime. Perhaps, Jacobs is the only force in the world who will be able to revive reading back into vogue.

In the grand scheme of things, rumors are also flying around about a Marc Jacobs cafe, but we will have to wait and see is gastronomy will be the next thing to fly with the Jacobs wing in fashion. Food and high fashion? We already feel some controversy cooking. Images via: racked
