Dover Street Market – Fall/Winter 2010 Collection | Available

When Rei Kawakubo opened Dover Street Market, she was hoping to create an arena where designers and artists who share her vision could interact, but since then, the multi-level shopping destination nestled in Mayfair, London, had expanded to include its very own clothing line as well as a second store in Tokyo. In thinking about the relationship between Kawakubo’s Comme des Garcons and Dover Street Market, the latter’s clothings are simplified derivatives of the former, and in terms of prices, slightly more accessible.
This season, aside from Dover Street Market, the Fall/Winter 2010 collection is also available at Aloha Rag as well. Things remain timeless, pared down, and absolutely no-nonsense in a simple palette of army green, blue and navy.
Hooded coats are made to be rain-repellent in waterproof nylon with removable lining for the unpredictable London weather (of which unpredictability does hold true for countries that experience four seasons), and they are rid of excess accoutrements. Every detail, every zipper, every drawstring, has a function. V-neck sweaters and striped button downs are staples that can’t be missed in a man’s closet, and the only slightly interesting liberty Kawakubo took in this collection seems to be the Easy Pant, which are track pants made in wool garbardine, with its loose silhouette acting as a departure from the tailored and slim trends as seen on the runway for this season.
