Milan Fashion Week – Gucci Men’s Fall/Winter 2011

Gucci showed its Fall/Winter 2011 collection in Milan, not far from its birthplace of Florence, Italy. Founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci, who’s goal was to marry English refinement with Italian craftsmanship. Creative Director Frida Giannini showed a 1970’s-style collection, inspired by vain men and Mick Jagger. Suits had sharp, almost up-turned, shoulders, a close fit, and peaked labels. Pants take a turn away from skinny fits of years past to a wider fit with a slight flare towards the hem. The color palette has a dusty 1970’s feel, with the use of off-whites, browns, powdery pink, muted blues and purple. The in-your-face luxury Gucci is known for came in the form of double-breasted crocodile skin jackets, Mongolian lamb fur and beaver coats. Long scarves, large bags and aviator sunglasses added to the dandy man image. Classic Gucci hallmarks like bamboo handles and equestrian themes were also seen throughout the collection. This look is meant for the man who is sophisticated and proud, and isn’t afraid to let everyone know it.
