We recently shared Generic Surplus’ collaboration with Comme des Garcons, and now we have the new arrivals for Spring/Summer 2011. True to form, Generic Surplus has taken classic shoe styles and turned them into basics with a casual, minimalist twist. Preppy staples like boat shoes and moccasins are redone as sleek lowtop sneakers with side lacing in black, white or navy canvas, or as cool black suede midtop sneakers with subtle fringe detailing. Taking inspiration from dress shoes as well, there’s also a lowtop in opal, navy or ginger-colored suede with perforated wingtip detailing. One of the things that sets these sneakers apart is the use of unusual but still masculine color combinations. Great examples are the Hunting Lo in off-white canvas and suede with gold eyelets for the laces or the Borstal in Olive/Navy with a pale blue trim and a natural hemp midsole.
