New York Fashion Week Gilded Age Fall/Winter 2011 Presentation

Considering the winter NYC has been having, Stefan Miljanic’s Artic-inspired Fall/Winter collection is quite apropos. Gilded Age is known for their use of organic materials, natural dyes, quality fabrics, and Japanese selvedge denim. Based on the principles of “Gilded Age” era craftsmanship (before the Industrial Revolution and mass production), the collection for this season was inspired by voyages to Greenland and the North Pole. Layers upon layers of shirts, sweaters, coats, scarves and vests, along with hiking boots, will certainly keep you warm through a harsh winter. Materials such as cashmere, leather, moleskin and fur were all luxurious and of the highest quality, perfect for bundling up, while the rumpled textures, multitude of layers and mixed prints created a feeling of “expedition grunge,” as Miljanic described it. Standout pieces were the button-downs with different patterns on each side, beautifully worn-in leather jackets, and well-cut outerwear that somehow made everything look polished.
