Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week – Duckie Brown – Fall/Winter 2011

Providing a reprieve from all the tailored looks and preppy details being seen at many other labels right now, Duckie Brown went in a more relaxed and fluid direction this season. Pants especially were cut very loose, some with pleats and a dropped crotch, almost akin to zoot suit proportions. For balance, jackets were cut slimmer, with sharp shoulders and three buttons. Knits and t-shirts were relaxed and drapey, some with an interesting drawstring hem detail. Texture, rather than pattern, was the star here. Massive shearling coats, a colorful wool described as “Bruised Tweed”, and the British and Italian tweeds Duckie Brown is known for created the most visual interest. While wide-leg pants and knee-length fur may not be for everyone, this collection was certainly a unique and refreshing change from many of the trendy looks being seen on other runways.
