New York Fashion Week – Rag & Bone – Fall/ Winter 2011

The Duke of Windsor was known for his daring sense of style and mixing of genres, and this is where designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright took inspiration for their Fall/Winter 2011 collection. The line has a more dandy-ish feel than past seasons, which were more influenced by American workwear. The Duke was known for mixing military, Scottish and hunting/fishing wear, to which Rag & Bone added the modern influences of biker jackets and ski wear. Red and white tartan plaids, kilts and cable-knits were layered with classic suiting and vests, in fact, many looks involved four to five layers. Suiting was given a new twist by incorporating ski wear touches, like bright blue nylon patches and looser, athletic fits. There were also plenty of great, wearable pieces that you’d expect from Rag & Bone, like a cowhide duffel coat with black leather sleeves and some great plaid suits (even if you’re not ready to rock a cravat).
