New York Fashion Week – Bespoken – Fall/Winter 2011 PresentationThough not technically a “heritage” brand, the 2 sets of brothers behind the young British label Bespoken certainly have the experience, as their family runs the illustrious English tailoring shop Turnbull & Asser, which is fast-approaching its 125th anniversary. For Fall/Winter 2011, the Goncalves and Fayed brothers were inspired by their shared great-grandfather, a member of the British Royal Navy during WWII. Featuring classic navel pieces like nautical striped shirts, rope belts, chunky cashmere/lambswool fisherman sweaters, and even waders, the designers also took advantage of their Savile Row roots. Sharp-shouldered suits in rich tweeds come in single and double-breasted options, and with notched lapels or slim shawl collars. A standout is the double-breasted cable-knit vests, which seamlessly combine the best of both worlds.
