Levi’s Vintage Clothing – Striped Blanket

Levis Vintage Clothing Striped Blanket

America has a storied history of amazing blankets, from ornate quilting to Native American wool blankets. Levi’s embodies Americana from all angels, and from the LVC imprint comes a striped blanket made of 100% wool. With a lively color pattern, this blanket can be a trusty favorite in a Maine summer pad or a bonfire at the Jersey Shore. Measuring 106″ x 62″, this blanket is even big enough to share with a companion who may need a little warmth on a chilly summer evening. These blankets are available at the fine French shop, French Trotters, but the fine craftsmanship on this huge wool blanket doesn’t come cheap, so prepare to shell out for an item that should last for a long, long time.

Golden Bear – Varsity Jackets

Golden Bear Varsity Jackets

The varsity jacket has seen many incarnations in recent years, but the industry standard for that very item is San Francisco’s own Golden Bear. We love products with a discernible heritage and track record for excellence, especially American brands that embody a time and place. Golden Bear has been in the business for 85 years, and they made jackets for the famed Flying Tigers in World War II. These varsity jackets have become the industry standard, as brands like Engineered Garments and stores like Unionmade have employed Golden Bear’s talents for their expertise. Check the photos of three versions of the varsity jacket available at Neighbor, and if you want the look of the real deal, don’t settle for trendy renditions of an Americana classic.

Beams+ 1970s Mountain Parka

Beams+ 1970s Mountain Parka

Many brands take inspiration from the great outdoors, and the 1970s has been a very influential decade within the culture of mountain climbing. This Beams+ Mountain Parka is named after that influential decade, during which many American companies, like the North Face and Jansport, were thriving and making iconic goods for adventure-seekers worldwide. Yo Shitara founded Beams+ in 1976, so the inspiration for this outerwear piece seems to fit nicely. This parka has a 70s-influenced Western-shirt styled colorblocking in copper and green in a jacket made of a complex 2 Layer 60/40 Cotton/Nylon Toray Entrant fabric. The Toray Entrant is a laminated, water-repellent fabric that protects the hiker, climber, or commuter from the elements while remaining breathable. Features include ergonomic hand-warming pockets and a modern cut designed to suit the street hiker as well as the mountain climber. This jacket is available at San Francisco’s Unionmade, which has other Beams+ products worth a look.

Levi’s Workwear by Filson – Fall 2011

Levis Workwear by Filson Fall 2011Two distinctively American brands, Levi’s and Filson, have collaborated to release a workwear collection for the Fall. All the items are crafted in Filson’s Seattle factory, and bear the marks of two brands that have been making quality items long before the onslaught of so-called workwear. Reinforcing that sentiment, Erik Joule, SVP of Global Men’s Merchandising and design for the Levi’s brand said, “This collaboration is the perfect marriage of iconic silhouettes and time-tested materials.” Many of the items are constructed of the trademark Filson tin cloth, a weather-ready, durable cloth developed to keep workers dry and protected. Denim, an obvious Levi’s staple, also appears on items like the hunting vest. Each item is meant to endure the rigors of tough trades, and is designed and constructed in the same manner in which it would have been over a century ago. Check out the collection below, and if you want to purchase any of these limited items, head to the Filson or Levi’s site to grab them while they’re still around.

3×1 Made Here

3x1 Made Here

New York City’s own 3×1 produces some of the world’s finest denim in house in their atelier, where they churn out limited edition denim products. Each style is limited to 8, 12, 16, or 24 pieces–depending on the given style, and many of those styles are  produced every day–made fresh to order, so to speak. 3×1 also offers an exclusive bespoke denim process where the wearer gets to customize the denim, thread, hardware, and pocket style based on an existing cut from their line. We don’t have to tell you that this streamlined process is almost non-existent anywhere, not to mention the opportunity to meet with the tailor and founder, Scott Morrison, who guides the customer through the process from selecting the denim to finishing off the hems. Check out their website to lean more about a band, store, and workshop that is like few others we’ve seen.
