Converse by John Varvatos – Spring 2012

Designer John Varvatos has long plumbed the world of rock ‘n’ roll for inspiration for his menswear line, as well as his ongoing collaboration with Converse. He effectively fused his two most ardent passions when he built his Bowery store in the same space that once housed the legendary punk club CBGB, and the gritty flavor of that East Village institution is alive and well in his Spring 2012 collection for Converse. First up is the Star Player in two styles: a low-cut silhouette in slate blue canvas with white Star Chevron logo, plus a high-top finished with a unique “ghosting” effect on the upper, which makes it appear as if the chevron branding and decorative stitching had been ripped clean off the shoe. The Converse Pro Leather also comes in both low and high profiles, featuring burnished treatment on the leather upper that leaves no two shoes exactly the same. The iconic Chuck Taylor makes an appearance as something the cat dragged in after a long night prowling the Bowery, and finally, the Sprint Grip provides a laid back, grungy feel in the form of a desert boot-sneaker hybrid.
