For his Fall/Winter 2012 show, Adam Kimmel delved deep into Area 51 lore to present a collection infused with a playful, idiosyncratic take on American military style. With a color palette dominated by varying shades of grey and metallic blues, Kimmel reconfigured the fighter pilot jumpsuit into suiting and sportswear, replete with mirrored shades to finish the look. There was no shortage of flight jackets and technical materials, but this was the future as envisaged in the 1950s heyday of Roswell conspiracy theories. The cardigans, belted trenches and high-waisted trousers all recalled a time when outer space was a national preoccupation that incited some to believe our military knew more than they let on.
