Woolrich Woolen Mills – Fall/Winter 2012

Woolrich Woolen Mills Fall/Winter 2012

Woolrich Woolen Mills‘ Fall/Winter 2012 lineup — Mark McNairy’s third collection for the brand — finds the designer mining the Civil War and the spaghetti western classic The Good, the Band and the Ugly for source material. The result is an assortment rife with wool tweed fabrications, faux fur trim and plenty of throwback headwear. Vintage looks are blended with sharply tailored silhouettes, while dark, muted colors rule the day. Highlights include a pair of heavy wool toggle coats, a blue anorak layered underneath a brown corduroy sport coat, and a yellow quilted shirt jacket paired with wool flannel cargo pants. Milan Fashion Week – Moncler Gamme Bleu Fall/Winter 2012

Milan Fashion Week – Moncler Gamme Bleu Fall/Winter 2012

Menswear designer Thom Browne may lack formal fashion design training on his resume, but that didn’t stop him from revolutionizing the way men dress. He made men want to wear suits again, and with his Moncler Gamme Bleu line, he’s deconstructing the way we think about athletic uniforms. Last year’s collection was built around fox hunting, which meant plenty of English houndstooths and Prince of Wales checks. For Fall 2012, Browne has immersed his designs in the world of Formula One racing, with Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna serving as his muse. His quirky creations are highlighted by down vests, flared puffer pants and outerwear with exaggerated shoulders, and his signature grey color palette is brightened with a surprising shock of canary yellow. Milan Fashion Week – Prada Fall/Winter 2012

Milan Fashion Week – Prada Fall/Winter 2012

Miuccia Prada likened her Fall/Winter 2012 menswear show in Milan this past Sunday to a “parody of male power,” which is perhaps why she enlisted the aid of some very recognizable film personalities to stalk the red carpeted runway. Who better to project male authority than some of Hollywood’s finest actors? They included Willem Dafoe, Gary Oldman, Adrien Brody, Tim Roth, Garett Hedlund, Emile Hirsch and Jamie Bell, who wore belted coats pinned with multiple lapel accessories that seemed to recall military badging. The tailored coats, high collars and shiny boots were blended with patterned silks and jacquards, evoking the dandyish formalism of the 1920s while expressing a modern masculine aesthetic. Austere grey and black gave way to plum, burgundy and rustic brown, bringing a touch of eccentricity to the classic silhouettes.

Carhartt WIP – Summer/Spring 2012 Lookbook

Carhartt WIP Summer/Spring 2012 Lookbook

Carhartt WIP presents its Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook, showcasing a collection that’s short on surprises but full of the quality essentials we expect from the brand. There’s plenty of color on hand to go with the warmer months ahead — as seen in the short-sleeved yarn-dyed button-down shirts in solid or plaid variations, as well as knit V-neck sweaters and tees — and reliable standbys like the slim-fit Sid Pant. The overall presentation is bound up in classic American heritage looks: varsity jackets and a strong fleece program highlight an appealingly laid back collegiate aesthetic, while camo print and water-repellent materials evoke the best of military and work wear.
