Rag & Bone Omotesando – Label’s First International Flagship Store

Rag & Bone Omotesando Labels First International Flagship Store

The alleyways of Tokyo’s Omotesando neighborhood just got a little crowded, in a good way. After an northward-southward expansion on the island of Manhattan, designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of Rag & Bone are making a move eastwardly bound to the Land of Raising Sun, Japan. The new location, the label’s 5th flagship not counting the one currently being build on NYC’s Upper West Side, is a multi-level stand alone storefront, which both designers have affectionately dubbed “a tiny house in Omotesando” on the label Twitter. However, Rag & Bone is a novice when it comes to the rapidly changing trends of Japan. The label garnered a growing fanbase since its entry in 2005, making this boutique, its first oversea, all the more important. Rag & Bone Omotesando is set to open tomorrow to the general public.

Oliver Spencer – Spring/Summer 2011 | Preview

Oliver Spencer Spring/Summer 2011 | Preview

The winning formulae to sartorial triumph seems to point at three things — the tailoring of the British plus the accessibility of the Americana and the creativity of the Japanese. UK-based globetrotting designer and retailer, Oliver Spencer, knows good style and just how to work those three elements together.

Oliver was a self-taught tailor and since he founded the label in 2002, he aims to deliver a collection which bridged the approachability of streetcar with the sophistication and maturity of traditional tailoring. The British transplant first hit New York city with the help of highly selective retailer, Odin, and had since then opened up shop in London, and will be opening the doors of a new spot in Toronto very soon.

While Oli had been on a jetsetting trip around North America in the past week, prepping for the opening of his new shop, Juncture visited Oli at his Spring/Summer 2011 preview in the city, and checked out what’s to be expected in the new season.

Chronicles of Never Corpus Callosum Sunglasses

Chronicles of Never Corpus Callosum Sunglasses

The ever cool Chronicles of Never first won us over with their unisex play on shapes, form and silhouette, proving us that down under indeed has a lot more to offer than glorious denim from Ksubi (even though the founder of Chronicles of Never was one of the founders of Ksubi). Then, the label went on to bring in a little more color for its previously pared down palette for Spring/Summer 2011, indicating a more experimental approach to its aesthetics. Apparently, prior to Spring/Summer 2011, the label has been dabbling in shades and the retro in its accessories for Fall/Winter 2010, with the release of these deep burgundy Corpus Callosum sunglasses.

The label’s shady business kicks start with heavyset square frames reminiscent of a wooden sculpture, and is an interesting take on balancing spacey futurism with earthiness. The lenses are a translucent light grey that doesn’t necessarily offer the incognito quality stars love in mirrored lenses, but it gives just the right amount of shade to offer a measured sense of intrigue and affability.

Probably the pair of sunglasses to kick all the Frogskins and Wayfarers off the cool podium, these are currently available at Revolve.

UNIQLO +J – Fall/Winter 2010 – Men’s Collection

UNIQLO +J Fall/Winter 2010 Mens Collection

When Jil Sander was hired back to her eponymous label three years after she was forced out of The Prada Group in 2000, Sander fans rejoiced for the duchess of minimalism and the parade of clean lines, no-nonsense cuts and frill-less tailoring. And this is the exact same reason why fans applauded Sander’s return into the world of fashion when she finally joined hands with Japanese fast retailer, UNIQLO, after she had departed from her eponymous label again. This time, with even more cause for celebration because the timeless and versatile minimalist designs are finally extremely affordable and wallet friendly.

As such, since Jil Sander’s collaborative +J collection at UNIQLO was launched a few seasons ago, each time a new delivery hits stores, the launch day warrants a line-up of sartorially minded women and men who crave simplicity. This season, Sander hits the right spot with the crowd’s perennial favorite– coats, coats and more coats. Wool is the choice material for everything from pea coat to blazers and tuxedo jackets, but this season Sander brings about a few new surprising touches that are lovingly subtle but points to Sander’s nuance for details. Double breasted jackets come with a slightly more formal peaked collar, and peacoats come with an adjustable classic soutien collar. Blazers and tuxedo jackets are cut slim, and some comes with an architectural flap in the back. For women, blazers were rid of buttons and lapels were designed with a curve in mind.

Alexander McQueen – Fall/Winter 2010 – Accessories Collection

Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2010 Accessories Collection

Aside from bumster pants, and a 3D holographic representation of Kate Moss on his runway presentation, Alexander McQueen has swept the world with his signature skulls and crossbones. Just like the Louis Vuitton Speedy bag or the Balenciaga top-handle purse, the Alexander McQueen skulls scarf was one of the wardrobe staples for any self-respecting sartorialist. After Alexander McQueen had sadly left us on the morning of the first day of New York Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2010, the scarves quickly flew off racks and shelves in mourning. This season marks the last season of McQueen’s work, and he had reworked his skulls motif into a darker, more gothic exploration of the same item. The rustic faded print of stacked bones and desolate skulls have found themselves onto accessories such as scarves, totes and sneakers, made from ultra soft leather, featuring a padded ankle and a skull zip detail. Aside from the pack of skulls, McQueen had also dressed another sneaker in an equally somber chain link print. For fans of McQueen, this may be the last chance to actually own a piece of his design, so godspeed, and find yours at retailers such as oki-ni.
