Barneys New York Launches Adam Kimmel x Carhartt | Video

To celebrate the release of the collaboration (which we previewed months ago) between American workwear legend Carhartt and Adam Kimmel, Barneys housed a unique installation space that involved live, well… installation. Artists George Herms and art collective Paintallica got out the power tools and torches out for an exhibition at Barneys to provide an atmosphere of sawdust and flying metal-shards for a workwear brand where many of its wearers often see many of the same conditions. Party-goers had a chance to personalize tree trunks with designs of their choice while viewing the pants, jackets, hats, and t-shirts in the collection. Barney’s also offered free-flowing Pabst Blue Ribbon guzzled out of gas containers, proving that some on hand may have ignored the warning to not operate machinery while consuming alcohol. The collection is still available at Barneys online, as well as at the freshly-constructed installation.

NAU Bicycle For A Day By Matthew Modine

Dodging the below zero temperature outside, a cozy gathering took place at the NAU pop-up shop (inside Dunderdon Store) here in New York City last evening. The occasion was the reaffirmation of NAU to the cause of fashion, performance and sustainability. But more importantly, it was the introduction of Bicycle for a Day, a non-for-profit organization, to those who never heard of it. The event, hosted by the organization’s famous founder, none other than the perennial youthful Matthew Modine, leading man to some 30+ films, including Married to the Mob as opposite to Michelle Pfeiffer and Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. In a brief speech, Modine explained the premise behind Bicycle for a Day (BFAD), both as an advocacy group for cyclists but importantly as a sort of empowerment apparatus to cyclists in New York City. In the meantime, the ever popular apparel collection from NAU is available at the NAU + Dunderdon Store in SoHo, where 2% of each sale will go to a one of four selected charities of your choice. However, the store will be at its present location till January so you must act fast.

The Pop Up Flea 2010

Before entering Openhouse Gallery in New York City, you have to abandon all previous notion of what a flea market is; clear your mind all trickles of the idea for the Pop-Up Flea is unlike any others you’ve been before.  Curated by Michael Williams of A Continuous Lean, the definitive information source of all that is Americana in men’s fashion, the Pop-Up Flea is part tradeshow and part marketplace.  Situated on 2 levels and 3 spacious rooms, vendors greet customers and the curious passers while industry icons greet each other along the narrow aisles.  Unlike other flea markets, however, Pop Up Flea isn’t a place only for those scouring for vintage rags.  Instead, the mini-market place is a congregation of what’s to come in the next few months, GANT Rugger presented its first holiday collection while Oak Street Bootmakers set up their very first retail spot, though temporary.  Now if the “Flea” could only last till the holiday season…

Lanvin x H&M – The Haute Couture Runway Show in New York

Every year, H&M releases a highly anticipated collaboration that promises to capture the imagination and credit limits of the fashionable who enjoys a bit of accessibility. Since the news of a collaboration between H&M and Lanvin surfaced months ago, the wait is finally over as the collection will be hitting stores this Saturday, and a large mob is guaranteed to be the same, if not bigger, than last year’s Jimmy Choo collaborative collection release.

In anticipation and celebration of the upcoming collection launch, Lanvin and H&M took over The Pierre Hotel in New York City and presented the collection on the runway. Attendees of the show includes Sofia Coppola, Andie MacDowell, Emma Roberts, Anna Sui, Tory Burch, and Alexander Wang. The star-studded fanfare started as guests arrived on the red carpet of the landmarked Pierre hotel facade, recreated with New York City-styled graffiti. The catwalk was adorned and draped in flowers, trees and greenery, bringing a new kind of opulence and playfulness that are less seen on fashion week presentations.

The collection will be sold in approximately 200 stores worldwide, hitting US and Canada first on November 20, and the rest of the world on November 23.
