Once a spot for Leonardo DiCaprio (we cannot thank you enough for leaving movies like Man In The Iron Mask and going on to work with Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese) to munch on steak and eggs, Cafe Colonial on the corner of Elizabeth Street and East Houston in New York City has shut its doors, and kitchen which has been providing the good people of Nolita with Brazilian eats. But, behold, better things come after steak– David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of hip menswear (which has also responded to the desolate lady shoppers’ cries to reach out into womenswear) label, Rag and Bone, has taken over the space for their line of shirts, jeans, knits and shoes.

It has been six years since Hamburg-based designer Jil Sander resigned from her eponymous label, Jil Sander, leaving the fashion house to Prada. In 2005, Raf Simons came as a welcomed successor to the label, and had since then, infused his own futuristic stamp with Sander’s legacy of simplicity and refinement, making gorgeous collections that are rid of nuanced sentiments, but instead, often let the design’s form speak for themselves. The understated elegance, refined tailoring first favored by female executives who picked up on Sander’s feminine expression of power-suiting without playing the sexuality card continues to live on in the fashion house, with the fundamentals of Sander’s designs thriving on without Sander at the helm.
