Penfield presents its lookbook for Spring/Summer 2012, highlighted by the summer colors of the brand’s native New England. Key items in the range consist of lightweight, versatile outerwear pieces constructed with densely woven Hudson Wax Cloth, a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton that wicks moisture away from the body while providing protection from spring showers. There’s the Gibson in Heritage Blue, a zip-front jacket with reinforced elbow patches, adjustable cuffs and peaked hood featuring cork cord locks. The Lockwood hooded field jacket in a handsome Blackwatch Plaid has multiple exterior pockets and adjustable Velcro snap cuffs. The Vassan parka in Boat Yellow features a unique metal clip closure, plus a tailored fit thanks to a combination of waist and hem cinches. Another standout is the Mendota nylon trail vest in light blue, equipped with lower hand pockets and finished with DWR (Durable Water Repellent) protection. The individual pieces are in stock now at Penfield retailers and online. Click through for more looks.

For this year’s edition of GQ’s Best New Menswear Designers in America, the esteemed menswear monthly has teamed up with filmmaker Jake Davis for a series of Test Shots profiling the six designers chosen by GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson. (The list: Ovadia & Sons, Ian Velardi, Todd Snyder, Saturdays NYC, BLK DNM and Mark McNairy.) The project kicks off with a guy who’s no stranger to our readers — Mark McNairy, whose CV includes a past stint at J.Press and a current one at Woolrich Woolen Mills, not to mention his own New Amsterdam label. We know him as the dude who’s established a beachhead at the vector where menswear and streetwear intersect. Check out the video following the click.

Levi’s presents its Commuter Series for Spring 2012, a collection tailored to the needs of the modern urban cyclist. Key pieces in the range include the Trucker Jacket and Chambray Shirt, as well as the 511 Jean and Trouser. The styling is on point, with all items offering ease of wear in addition to the technical benefits across the board: Nanosphere technology, offering water resistance and dirt repellency; 3M reflective detailing for safe riding at night; and antimicrobial Sanitized technology. The slim cut 511 jeans and trousers are built with a higher back rise, reinforced seat and dedicated strap for U-lock storage, plus dedicated mobile phone pocket. The chambray workshirt, equipped with back and underarm ventilation, features 3XDRY technology, which absorbs perspiration and prevents stains. Rounding out the collection is the Trucker Jacket — in conventional or hooded styles — with gusseted shoulders, utility pockets and extended tail and sleeves. “Sunshine Days!” is the exuberantly titled Spring/Summer 2012 collection for GANT by Michael Bastian, and why wouldn’t one be enthusiastic about a video showcase shot in Hawaii, with all that sand, surf and perpetual sunshine? The official line has the tropical mise-en-scene being inspired by a Brady Bunch story arc in which the happy-go-lucky clan decamps to Hawaii, but that particular television series aired in the ’70s, not the ’80s, and we’re pretty sure Steven Meisel never directed any episodes. The guy wearing the plaid sport coat with rolled up sleeves over a rugby layered over an oxford button-down is the Preppy Handbook brought to life, and the entire video harks back to a time when fashion photography entered the mainstream to the extent that names like Herb Ritts and Bruce Weber were recognizable to people outside the industry. Regardless of the inspiration, you’ll want to pack your trunks and a couple of polos and book a flight ASAP. Check out the video following the click.

Leave it to Nigel Cabourn to formulate a garment inspired by the tweed sports coat worn by Sherpa Tenzing Norgay (he helped one Edmund Hillary summit a mountain range you may have heard of) that contains equal parts military heritage and civilian tailoring, resulting in a singular piece that’s also easy to wear. Part of the designer’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, dubbed “Desert Rats” after the 7th Armoured Division, this New Pocket Tenzing Jacket Camo is crafted from lightweight yet durable cotton drill camouflage cloth. Features include a notched lapel, horn buttons, single-buttoned chest pocket and two large patch pockets. Four-button cuffs and a single rear vent finish the look. Get it now from Tres Bien Shop.

We’ve always admired Engineered Garments for their bold and intricate designs, but we’ve been given an entirely new way to appreciate the colorful patterns thanks to HARRYS. Their trippy video lookbook showcases Engineered Garments’ Spring/Summer 2012 collection by blowing up the brand’s signature plaids and floral prints so that they become eye-catching wallpaper, while distinctly lo-fi effects have figures emerging from the picture while still haphazardly camouflaged by the background colors. Hallucinogens have never seemed so fashionable. Check out the video following the click.
